SPEAK TO ZOÉ MOBILE APP
This section explains how our mobile app, Speak to Zoé for iOS and Android (“the app”), handles your information. Where it differs from the rest of this Privacy Notice, this section applies to the app.
What the app collects
- Account information: your email address, password, and an optional display name.
- Voice recordings: captured through your microphone only while you are actively recording an entry. The app never uses the microphone in the background.
- Journal content: the dreams, prayers, scripture reflections, and impressions you record, their transcripts, and the AI-generated interpretations, summaries, and pattern analyses created from them.
- Subscription information: if you subscribe, we receive your purchase and subscription status. Payments are processed by Apple or Google. We never receive your card or payment details.
Your journal content may reveal your religious or spiritual beliefs. We use it only to provide the app to you.
What the app does not collect
The app does not collect your location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. It contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools. We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
How we use your information
Only to provide the app: to sign you in, transcribe your recordings, generate interpretations and pattern analyses, store your journal, manage your subscription, and respond to support requests.
AI processing
Your recordings are transcribed, and your entries are analyzed, using OpenAI’s services. Under OpenAI’s API terms, content we send is not used to train their models. Interpretations are generated automatically, are visible only to you, and are prompts for reflection. They are not professional, medical, or pastoral advice. You can report any interpretation from the entry screen.
Voice recordings
Your original recording stays on your device. Recordings are sent to our servers only for transcription. Any copy stored on our servers for that purpose is deleted after transcription is complete.
Service providers
We use the following providers to run the app. They process your data only on our behalf:
- Supabase: account sign-in, database, and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- OpenAI: transcription and AI interpretations (openai.com/policies/privacy-policy)
- RevenueCat: subscription management; receives your account ID and purchase records (revenuecat.com/privacy)
- Apple App Store and Google Play: payment processing
- Wistia: playback of in-app tutorial videos (wistia.com/privacy)
- Vercel: hosting for our app server (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
Notifications
Daily reminders are scheduled on your device. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings.
Data retention
We keep your account and journal for as long as your account exists. Deleting an entry removes it. Deleting your account removes everything listed below.
Your choices
- Export your journal: Settings → Your data (CSV, Markdown, or plain text).
- Delete an entry: open the entry and delete it.
- Delete your account: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, all entries, transcripts, interpretations, and any recordings on our servers. You can also request deletion at https://thezoelife.ai/account-delete. Remaining copies in our backups are removed within 30 days.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and each account’s journal and recordings are stored privately and are accessible only to that account.
Children
The app is intended for users 18 and older. See “Do we collect information from minors?” below.

In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason (i.e., legal basis) to do so under applicable law, like with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services to enter into or fulfill our contractual obligations, to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate business interests.
If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
- Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Learn more about withdrawing your consent.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.

- For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
- If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
- If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
- If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
- If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced

6. IS YOUR INFORMATION TRANSFERRED INTERNATIONALLY?
In Short: We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own.
Our servers are located in the United States. Regardless of your location, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored by, and processed by us in our facilities and in the facilities of the third parties with whom we may share your personal information (see “WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?” above), including facilities in the United States, and other countries.
If you are a resident in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), or Switzerland, then these countries may not necessarily have data protection laws or other similar laws as comprehensive as those in your country. However, we will take all necessary measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Notice and applicable law.
We process your information in the United States. Where we transfer personal information from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including written contracts with our service providers that require them to protect it and to process it only on our instructions.
In certain situations, we may be required to disclose personal information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.
7. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). No purpose in this notice will require us keeping your personal information for longer than the period of time in which users have an account with us.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
8. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
9. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction.
We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction, nor do we knowingly sell such personal information. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction, please contact us at team@thezoelife.ai.

However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.

If you choose to remove cookies or reject cookies, this could affect certain features or services of our Services.

11. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.
